When NutraSweet first came on the market 10 years ago, I switched to it from saccharin for my soft drinks (sodas made with sugar taste too “sticky” for me). Shortly thereafter, my short-term memory started going. I would be in the middle of a sentence and totally forget what I was talking about. I would walk down the hall in my house to go to another room and forget what room I was going to, much less what I was going *for*, by the time I made it down 12 feet of hallway.
I was 29 years old and convinced that I was having advanced symptoms of Alzheimer’s, it was that bad.
But then a friend of mine said that her doctor told her to stay away from NutraSweet, as it destroyed the synapses (the little gaps in the brain that keep your memory circuits running), and after I stopped using NutraSweet, my memory came back.
