I was drinking a LOT of diet sodas. I’d say around 4 to six a day. (Well, it was summer in NYC) as well as using NutraSweet in my coffee, in my yoghurt and cereal etc.
I began to get severely depressed. I mean, to a frightening degree. It was shortly after that that I started reading some articles on the possible connection between Aspartame and depression.
I quit cold turkey!!!
I have to qualify this by saying that at the time I hated my job. So that has to be considered as a cause, but the degree to which I was depressed was something I have never experienced before. I have had “black days” but could always pin it to a good reason and get going on doing something about it. This was disabling!!!!
However, within a couple of weeks after going back to saccharine and sugar, the whole black cloud lifted. I don’t miss the stuff.
