I had been drinking large amounts of Diet Coke for years and over that time my vision (nearsightedness) went from -.75 to -4.25. Focus/resolution has remained good. The worst part was (and remains) a feeling of the loss of alertness. I find it harder to learn new things (computer programming) and reading to comprehend is really difficult. There was a point in time just before I stopped drinking Diet Coke that I could sit for hours and read the same page and still not know what it said. I remember thinking if I underline or highlight the words the meaning of the thought would become clear. It did not work.
After stopping, I lost 35 lbs. and started working out and eating low fat food. I have now gained some of it back, but have not drunk a diet soda in 5 years. I do not believe I have regained the full functioning of memory. I can now point to other problems on the list and identify with them. I was told I had functional Hypoglycemia’ and the mood swings (and a list of others) were a result of it. I told the doctor that I was drinking large amounts of Diet Coke and he did not seem to think it was a problem.
I have taken your information and printed it and have been making copies for people I know that are drinking a lot of diet sodas.
